To accomplish great things we must not only act, but also dream; not only plan, but also believe.

Anatole France

Culturally, doing and taking action are considered the most valuable way we can spend our time. It is rare, and refreshing, to be encouraged to dream.  You’re ‘wasting your time daydreaming’ is the more common criticism. It’s generally aimed at children, although there still may be an adult or two who spend their time in reverie.

However, it is in our dreams that innovative solutions and dazzling new creations are whipped up. It is in these moments of fanciful musing that our whole brain is engaged and open to inspiration.

Believe in your idea, trust your instincts, and don’t be afraid to fail.

Sara Blakely

Believe not only in your dreams, but in the brilliance of choosing to allow time for dreaming in your life. Write down the ideas that come – it isn’t necessary for them to be practical, or possible. Far from it! In paying attention to your dreams and believing in the intrinsic value of inviting them to reveal themselves to you, your creativity is strengthened.

Boldly Go Where No One Has Gone Before

Fortune does favor the bold and you’ll never know what you’re capable of if you don’t try.

Sheryl Sandberg

It takes a great deal of boldness to acknowledge your dreams. This very act will fuel the daring needed to bring them to life. Take your list of dreams – all of the things you would do or like to be true if there were no obstacles – and read through it every day for 14 days. Observe any negative or critical thoughts that come up. This is the voice of your inner critic, a protective force within you. Now, boldly thank your protector and go back to reading your list.

After the 2 weeks is up, ask yourself which dream you’d like to work on more closely. Find some pictures or images that illustrate your dream for you. Post them, either physically, or electronically, and take time to enjoy your positive feelings while looking at them. It isn’t the time to analyze or strategize. It’s essential to build a solid foundation of gratitude, happiness, and love within yourself toward this dream.
