There is no perfect fit when you’re looking for the next big thing to do. You have to take opportunities and make an opportunity fit for you, rather than the other way around. The ability to learn is the most important quality a leader can have.

We cannot change what we are not aware of, and once we are aware, we cannot help but change.

Fortune does favor the bold and you’ll never know what you’re capable of if you don’t try.

Sheryl Sandberg

Sheryl Sandberg started a revolution when she first appeared on Ted Women in 2010 with her talk entitled, Why We Have Too Few Women Leaders. The perspective that she presented is that women can assuage some of the gender equality by ‘leaning in,’ that is to say by owning their ambition, opinions, and expertise. Too many women, it seems, choose not to sit at the table where important decisions are made. Her experience working for the Treasury Department, Google, and Facebook has shown her that too often women succumb to the cultural pressures to choose being liked over being successful.

Her subsequent book, Lean In: Women, Work & the Will to Lead expanded on these ideas and included many acknowledgements of external barriers to women’s success, as well as the internal ones. The book contains valuable information for women and men who believe, as Sheryl does, that the world will be immensely improved by leadership equality.

Sheryl appeared, once again, on Ted Women in 2013 to talk about what’s been done, how things have or haven’t changed, and what to do next. Her latest campaign is called “Ban Bossy” in collaboration with Beyonce.
