What Is Transcendental Meditation®?

iceberg you really are
We cannot express powers that we do not possess. The only way by which we may secure possession of power is to become conscious of power, and we can never become conscious of power until we learn that all power is within.

Charles F. Haanel

The United States of Consciousness

Typically, we are aware of only 3 states of consciousness: waking, sleeping, and dreaming.  The TM® technique allows the meditator to access a fourth state called transcendence. The 2 twenty minute a day sessions of Transcendental Meditation® are spent in this fourth state. This is significant because mindfulness, breathing, and other mantra meditation practices focus on calming the waking state of consciousness.

It’s Always There

Transcendent consciousness is difficult to quantify or to describe. Perhaps you had a moment out in nature where you were no longer experiencing a sense of separateness and were filled with quiet joy. Or, after a yoga session, felt yourself slip into a deep place to enjoy the bliss therein. These are transcendent moments. Transcendental Meditation® training provides a guaranteed method of arriving at transcendent consciousness each time you practice it.

What’s It Like?

The experience is likened to slipping into water of the most perfect temperature and floating, with all stress dissolved away. It can also be described as falling awake. During Transcendental Meditation® you are deeply restful, yet alert. It is a combination  of release and restoration unlike anything we normally experience.

Explaining Transcendental Meditation® is like trying to tell someone who’s never had chocolate what chocolate tastes like. It sounds a lot like other things, but until you have practiced it, you’ll never know why it’s so different.

Transcendental Meditation® is taught by a trained instructor. There is a cost to receiving this instruction which includes lifetime access to teachers anywhere in the world. Scholarships, grants and payment plans are all readily available. In particular, the David Lynch Foundation is solely devoted to raising funds to provide TM® at no cost to adults and children at risk.

This is a short and wonderful explanation about how our brains work.

PS – I am a TM® practitioner. I am not a teacher of it, nor am I an affiliate of any organization that teaches it. It has radically and permanently restored and renewed my life. Of all the techniques I have tried it is truly the most effective and beneficial, and surprisingly, the easiest. 🙂
